Oktav Roga made quick work of Rome, blanking the Cardinals 4-0 at Meisterflauten Ballpark today. The Vienna pitcher limited them to 5 hits to earn the victory. Roga fanned 2 and walked 3.
In 18 starts this season Roga has recorded a 9-11 record and a 3.31 ERA. |
 | Tuesday, August 24th, 1920: Rome's Bernasconi Down with Injury
The Rome Cardinals were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Emmanuele Bernasconi was likely to be out for 2-3 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Athens Philosophers. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a finger blister. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Rome manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Emmanuele is back in action."
In 1920 Bernasconi has recorded a 3-10 won-lost mark, pitched in 31 relief appearances and rung up 3 saves. He has a 3.23 ERA and has allowed 77 hits over his 78 innings of work, struck out 25 batters and walked 27. |
 | Tuesday, August 24th, 1920: Rome's Calzolai out 2 Weeks
Rome fans will be disappointed to learn that Yvon Calzolai developed dead arm syndrome while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Rome Cardinals manager that Calzolai was expected to miss 2 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the starting pitcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
This season Calzolai has a 14-7 record with a 2.92 ERA in 24 starts. |
