Hervé Fischer, the Paris center fielder, had a productive month in August. He put up some solid numbers with a .352 batting average (43 for 122), 3 home runs, 26 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
That standout offense earned him the European League Batter of the Month Trophy.
This season Fischer is batting .333 with 3 home runs. |
 | Tuesday, August 31st, 1920: 5-5 Day for Gros
It was a good day for the Revolutions at Stadium de Triomphe as they clipped the Athens Philosophers 9-0. It was tremendous day for Moïse Gros, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage.
The Paris second baseman told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
M. Gros singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th and hit a two-run home run off D. Calpis in the 7th.
In 1920 Gros is currently batting .305 with 8 home runs and 57 RBIs. In 131 games he has reached base at a .371 rate and scored 113 runs to date. |
 | Tuesday, August 31st, 1920: Athens Hopeless Against Gruppe
Urbanus Gruppe was stingy with runs in his latest outing against the Philosophers. He shut them out 9-0 on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
The Paris manager said, "Urbanus was very aggressive tonight. He threw everything he had with a lot of confidence."
The losing manager had praise, too. "He was throwing strikes with all his pitches and mixing it up well. Gruppe has a sneaky fastball, and whatever that offspeed pitch was, it was keeping our timing off."
Thus far this season, Gruppe has worked 280.2 innings with 105 strikeouts en route to a 19-13 record and a 3.05 ERA. |
