| Breaking News | | Thursday, September 30th, 1920: Rising Sun Sato Takes AA Batting Crown The America/Asia batting race ended with Tokyo's Hirofumi Sato on top with a .351 average. The Rising Sun right fielder was officially named the winner today. For the season he totaled 190 hits, 2 home runs with 70 RBIs and 81 runs scored.
At the award ceremony Sato told reporters the key to his hitting success this season. "I stayed focused and tried to get a hit in every at-bat." | | Friday, September 24th, 1920: Iwasaki Puts Spell on Shanghai Shinsaku Iwasaki of the Tokyo Rising Sun shut out the Shanghai Dragons 1-0, stopped them on 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing.
After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Shinsaku stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."
This season Iwasaki has a 12-8 record with a 2.65 ERA. | | Wednesday, September 15th, 1920: Hit Streak Over, Outback Stop Sakei Late in the game Rising Sun center fielder Azumamaro Sakei stepped into the batter box with his 26-game hitting streak on the line. Up to then he was without a hit. Sadly it just wasn't to be -- Sakei did not get a hit -- and his streak was finally over. The Outback had stopped him, not allowing him a hit in 2 at-bats. However, Tokyo won the game 3-2.
"Winning the game took some of the disappointment out of it," Sakei told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 26 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
Thus far this season in 123 games Sakei is batting .313 with 1 home run, 38 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has 121 hits in 387 at-bats. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 85-77, .525 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 12.0 GB | | Record at home | 42-39, .519 PCT | | Record on the road | 43-38, .531 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-5, .643 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 31-19, .620 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 17-16, .515 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 68-61, .527 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 6-10, .375 PCT | | Record in May | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in June | 10-21, .323 PCT | | Record in July | 19-13, .594 PCT | | Record in August | 18-12, .600 PCT | | Record in September | 17-9, .654 PCT |
