 | Friday, July 1st, 1921: European League Names Rookie of Month
Demetrius Martis earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the European League for last month's performance. The boyish Athens third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.
Martis hit .355 with no home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.
Presently Martis is batting .360 with 3 home runs and 45 RBIs. He has played in 67 games and scored 53 times. |

Yasuyuki Kohara is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest America/Asia Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.
In June the Tokyo hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .398 average with 43 hits, 3 home runs and 22 RBIs.
So far this season Kohara has hit .363 with 3 home runs, 31 RBIs and and scored 40 times. |
